Underwater Robotics

Journal Entry #1

For our first few days of this course, we brainstormed ideas on underwater robotics. We chose to do our project on the ROV, which is a robot that is controlled above water to perform dives in maybe hard to reach places. There is a camera mounted on for additional view, along with motor's, propeller's, and soon to be a WIFI antennae for access to camera viewing on hand held devices. That is our main goal by the end of the semester, not only to build the antennae, but to actually build the frame for the ROV as well. Through the next week or two, we will hopefully have a good start on building the frame.

This week with our Mate ROV we constructed the floats and started to construct the motor shrouds. We also put the pvc pipes into the ROV, and we sealed it with JB weld.

Journal Entry #3

As of March 22, 2016, Matthew Cole and I have been steadily working on our ROV frame. We worked some more on the motor shrouds. By using some JB weld, we sucessfully mounted one of the motor mounts. Our Makerspace just got a new Dremel, so it will be easier to drill holes in any necessary places. Our next few classes will be devoted to working on getting the motor mounts in place, as well some of the wiring, which is needed to control the ROV.

Journal Entry # 4

As of April 11, 2016, Matthew Cole and I have finished mounting the wiring. We drilled holes into the motor shrouds so that they will stay in place during operation. By the end of this week we will be starting another project, so as of right now, a lot has to be done to the Mate ROV.
