We read a Case Study on Charles Darwin and watched some clips on his history.  Also discussed notes on adaptations and genetics.  Be sure to know these for the test next week! HOMEWORK:  Pass in inventories tomorrow if you have eco-points to be checked

We looked into what factors influence the human population.  Checked out some interesting websites on... world clock, global life expectency and average income in Canada.  Be sure to get the notes as test will be next week. HOMEWORK:  Bring material for research paper/eco-point activities (in Humanities lab tomorrow)

We discussed the Easter Island article and video that we watched yesterday.  We also did an activity on populations where groups were assigned a growth rate and graphed their results.  Finished with discussing negative/positive influences on human populations and the environment.HOMEWORK:  Work on getting eco-points and continue researching your topic.

We read an article on Easter Island and discovered that it is an example of many of the themes we have discussed so far in the course...deforestation, sustainability, 'Lorax' themes and populations.  Check out the lesson for a copy of the article along with a link to the video we watched on Easter Island.HOMEWORK:  Lab report due Friday

We took the first 20 minutes to continue working on the lab from yesterday [must be passed in FIRST of class on Friday].  We did some math using an exponential growth formula and discussed some key terms (check out the notes for definitions).  Be sure to know the logistic vs exponential diagram!

This lab focused on the 'Mark-Return-Recapture' technique that is used for estimating a population.  The lesson has the link for the extension question.  Only 1 lab report needs to be passed per group.  See me if your absent today to set up a time to complete this lab.  DUE FIRST OF CLASS ON FRIDAY.

Today we decided upon our class logo...congrats to Taylor Jennings as his design is our new logo.  Also celebrated National Sweater Day for some eco-points.  We watched some videos on the Human Footprint and discussed ethical consumerism.  HOMEWORK:  Work on eco-points and continuing researching your topic

We finished our discussion of Fracking [gave the 'cons' of the issue and crossword puzzle solution].  Rest of class was spent in the library researching an issue and/or planning eco-challenge activities.  Check the lesson for the list of possible research ideas.  HOMEWORK:  Quiz tomorrow!
