Short Story test on Thursday, March 22nd.   We discussed the difference between the subject and the theme of a short story.   Read the short story "Hurt" by Alden Nowlan.   Do a draft paragraph discussing the subject and theme of the story.  Use quotes from the story to support your statements.

We read chapter 2 of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.  Point of view was discussed.   Homework:  Vocabulary exercise and 6 questions.

Today we looked at the elements of a short story and focused in on Point of View.  We read the story "Charles" by Shirley Jackson and discussed how the reader's experience would change with a different first person narrator.   Homework:  There is no real resolution to the story "Charles".  Write an ending for the story, resolving some of the issues (half page)
