Mini Pow Wow Agenda May 16, 2013 11:45am – 12:30pm - Smudging of Traditional (sample) Feast at the school cafeteria.  Traditional Elder George Paul will explain about why we have traditional feasts & Smudging of the food. 12:30-12:45 pm - Grand Entry set up. (Register names of Native participants on the grand entry). March begins main floor in beside cafeteria to front entrance outside to gym entrance (weather permitting);   then in gymnasium- Honor Songs begin. Grand Entry – Honor Songs: ·         Honor Song- Welcome Song :  White Hawk ·         Flag Song:   Host Drum – Birch Creek ·         Veteran Song:  Host Drum Elders present small gift to all students. (Students will be asked to get up and see Elders). 12:45-1pm - Opening Prayers by Miigam’agan, Spiritual Elder, Esgenoopetitj FN (STU Elder in Residence) 1pm- 1:30 – Opening remarks by Principal, School Superintendent 1:30 1:45pm - MC George Paul – introduces Host Drum & Drummers, Dancers, and Elders with songs, dance and opening & closing; also crafts vendors for all to see after pow wow from 3pm until 3:20pm. 1:45-2:45 pm - Welcome   ·         Intertribal song: Birch Creek ·          Head Dancers – Female: Brandy Barnaby;  Male :  Chris Wysote ·         Traditional dancers    (White Hawk) ·          Jingle dancers/Fancy Shawl Dancers ( ·         Men’s traditional dance- Chris Wysote (White Hawk) ·         Two-Step Dance :  Brandy Barnaby  -to perform two-step assisted by MVHS Student Dancers: Shelby Joe, Amethyst Murphy; Maddy Sark Daisy Ward, Shaye Patles and Tori Metallic  (Birch Creek) ·         Shawl exchange dance (White Hawk) ·         Round Dance (Birch Creek) 2:45pm - Give Away to Participant:  Elders & Veterans/Dancers /Drummers 2:55pm - Closing- Joseph Leonard Ward, Traditional Elder (Eel Ground FN) 3-3:20pm - Vendors/crafts available for all to see or purchase.  (To set up by 11:30at Gym) ·         Jimmy Augustine                                                   - George Paul Productions ·         Sgoagani Mye Fashions                                      -  Beckie Labillios ·         Steven Sewell                                                           - Jackie Somerville ·         Pauline Young-Matchett                                   - Metepenagiag Heritage Park       ·         Shane Perley-Dutcher   The Mini Pow Wow will be educational, participatory, student fun event, open to family, create an awareness of First Nations culture.  Welcome all Students and Staff.
