For anyone who had Ms. Hennebury teach them Lord Of the Flies this is all the stuff we have worked on so far. This is so you can be as prepared as possible for your upcoming exam.   Chapter 1 After listening to the description of the Island write in your Quickwrite books about how you feel or think about the island from this description? ? If you want draw the island and describe in a couple of sentences what you drew and why. What are some key features about the island that stick out to you? What kind of mood does this description bring out? Please get into groups of four: In your groups draw the island from Golding’s description. Label the beach, the granite platform, the coral reef, the scar, the mountains, and the pig run. Use different colours to illustrate the mood each location creates.    Civilization vs. Savagery - The instinct to love by rules vs. The instinct to gratify ones desires.  The Conch Shell - The shell effectively governs the boys’ meetings, for the boy who holds the shell holds the right to speak. In this regard, the shell is more than a symbol—it is an actual vessel of political legitimacy and democratic power.    Introduce the literary device of symbolism. What does symbolism allow the author to do? Why is symbolism an important function in reading literature? Poems and songs very symbolic can provide an example of contemporary artist and get them to pick out symbols. What do the symbols represent? What are some symbols introduced in Golding’s novel? Chapter 5-7   You will be given lots of time to answer you questions as a group, after the time is up you will be presenting you findings/answers to the class.
