Welcome back to MVHS! The first two weeks of classes have flown by! This is what students have been working on in my classes so far:
Period 1: English 10
Students have been doing research on Native American History. They have each chosen a topic and are creating a PowerPoint presentation on what they have learned. This will tie into the novel that we are starting next week - Flight by Sherman Alexie. It is one of my favorite books!
Period 2: English 113
Students spent the first few days of class reading the short story The Sniper by Liam O'Flaherty and answering comprehension questions. We are getting ready to read the novel The Contender by Robert Lipsyte. To prepare for this, we listened to the song The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel and had a class discussion about how even if things are hard, you should always keep fighting through life.
Period 4: Indigenous Studies 120
We started off the semester by discussing appropriate terminology. We read an essay by Chelsea Vowel that helped us to understand this a little bit more. Attendance and participation in this class is extremely important in order to have success. There are small in-class assignments/journal entries each day in class. Students can use PowerSchool to keep track of what assignments they owe for this class.
