Test is on Tuesday, December 14 Test Outline:  Part A:  Multiple Choice Part B:  Short Answer Questions.  You will have choice and your answers should be a paragraph long.Part C:  1 Essay.  You will have choice.  Include minimum of 1 quotes from the play to support your answer.    Study Tips:1.  Study literary terms2.  Review questions 3.  Review sticky note quotes4.  Re-read scene summaries 5.  Character log 6.  In class assignments Final Sticky Note Quote:  "Then I defy you stars" (5.1.24)   Essay:  Choose ONE of the following essay questions and write a properly organized response.  This should be at least one page in length single spaced, and should include an introduction, a minimum of three examples from the text to support your answer, use a minimum of one quote from the play (in-text citation) and a conclusion. 1.  Romeo and Juliet are referred to as “star cross’d lovers”.  What is the role of fate/destiny in the play?  Using examples from the play, demonstrate how Romeo and Juliet are ill-fated. 2.  Who suffered the most in this play?  Cite specific examples from the play to support your opinion. 3.  Friar Laurence serves many dramatic purposes in the play. Examine the Friar and his role in Romeo and Juliet. 4.  Who do you feel is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet?  Explain why.

Students worked on a crossword activity for Act III Scenes I and II focusing on the events and literary terms, then read Act III Scene III.

 Read Act III Scene II  Students worked on an activity where they had to fill in the blanks for Juliet's soliloquy and answer 4 questions.  I have attached this document.  This activity is to be completed for homework, we will discuss it tomorrow.

New literary terms discussed today: 1.  Allusion:  a brief reference to a person, an abstract concept, or an important object is directly addressed 2.  Analogy: shows the relationships between pairs of  words/ideas 3.  Alliteration:  words begin with the same sound 4.  Monologue:  a speech to a character who is presumed to be present. 5.  Oxymoron:  contradictory terms appear side by side. 6.  Dramatic irony:  when the audience knows something the characters don't know 7.  Situational Irony:    when the opposite of what is expected happens 8.  Verbal Irony:  sarcasm

A reminder to students that the first creative extension project is due Thursday, November 18th.  Today we concluded act II of Romeo and Juliet with students hilighting important quotes and answering questions in groups.

In class today we discussed creative project options for Romeo and Juliet.  I have attached the creative extensions assignment sheet for reference.  The first creative extensions project is due Thursday, November 18.  All instructions are included on the assignment sheet.

In class today, we viewed two different movie clips of the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet.  The students were asked to pay attention to the differences in props, music, set, costumes, lines spoken, and other notable differences.  Then students were asked to answer the following questions:  On a separate piece of looseleaf, answer the following question in a half page response:  How are the two film versions similar and different? Which film version best exemplifies the balcony scene, and why?
