Notes

Well it is our last week of Home Learning for Outdoor Ed. This week provides you with an exciting opportunity to attempt the bow drill. While challenging, and at times frustrating, it is a perfect way to end the school year. See the document below for a detailed example with embedded Youtube clips from Mr. MacKinnon that will help you create fire from just a string and and bow. Please document your attempts with video and send them in to my email. I would love to see you try this!

Thanks and have a great week!

Welcome to Week 6 of Home Learning.  Hope you are still able to grabs lots of photos for the arrival of Spring assignment. The assignment this week is designed to help you with alternative fire making. Alternative fire making is having the ability to begin a fire without the use of matches/lighters and is a skill that can help in a time of need.  Read the instructions carefully and please document your attempts and send them in an email to justin.cortes@nbed.nb.ca. I would really love to see your attempts at this. If you are having trouble please feel free to contact me for a little support.

Thanks and have a great week!

Hope everyone is getting a chance to spend lots of time outdoors.  This week is Shelter making time. In our climate you can have a beautiful warm spring day, only to have snow two days later. Having the skills to create a shelter could help you in a time of need. See the attached document for this weeks instructions. Please capture picutres and videos and pass them along to me.

Have a great week!

Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather. Please view attached file and complete the assignment for Week 4 of Home Learning.

Two things I would like each of you to check out would be Episode 1 of Uncle Paulie's "Knotty Fun". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeLks-pcxos&feature=youtu.be. Knots will be something we focus on in the coming weeks.

Also please accept the challegne from "Take Me Outside": April 27 – May 2:

Prepare a list of adventures you want to eventually do with your friends outside & make it part of your “recovery plan.” The outdoors is so important to developing & strengthening our relationships.

Have a great week!

Hope everyone had a great Easter Break. This week we have a two part activity to challenge us with. April 15-17 you will begin a litle research.  I would ask that you take a look at the Scavenger Hunt list on the attachment and ensure you know what each item is on the list. This will require some prep work to become accustomed to the items. I recommened using the follwing website: https://treecanada.ca/resources/trees-of-canada/ to study the different types of trees/leaves found in our region. As for the animals I will leave that up to you to navigate.

Starting next Monday you will be required to complete the Scavenger Hunt. I recommend you Download the app "I naturalist" to your phone if possible. This is one of the leading Nature apps avaialble and will assist you in identifying specific things in nature you may be unsure of. Attempt to find as many items as possible. Please take pictures of items as you find them. Arrange the pictures in a file and send your results to my email: justin.cortes@nbed.nb.ca

Enjoy the Outdoors!
