The Grade 10 personal essay draft will be due at the end of class on Monday, October 23rd. Don't forget to read at home!

Last week we finished looking at personal essay examples.  Students have read and evaluated 5 personal essays and did a group presentation in class. The marks for this are on Powerschool.  Students are reminded to read 60 minutes at home each week!

Students have completed their grammar test, and their marks have been uploaded to Powerschool.  We are starting a new section on figurative language with the goal of improving our writing before our next writing piece.

Don't forget to read for 60 minutes at home every week to reach your reading rate!

This week students continued work on Truth and Reconciliation assignments and grammar practice.  Students were to complete a worksheet about finding different sentences in their independent novels.  They will turn one of their examples into a poster that will be displayed in the classroom. The sheet and the poster are due tomorrow, October 11th.

I will be checking reading rates tomorrow, October 11th, and we will have a grammar test on Thursday.  Students are asked to check Teams in the event they are absent as all the work is posted on there.

This week in class we worked on our personal essay unit.  Students should have read the following mentor essays: "Those People, Our People", "A Mistake That Lasts a Lifetime", and "Where There's a Will, There's a Way".  Students who were absent should be checking our Teams page for missed work. Students received their marks back for their Hero Creative Writing Assignment, so if it a 0 on PowerSchool, it means it was not turned in.

I will be checking reading rates tomorrow, October 11th.

We worked on our grammar unit this past week as well as some activities for Truth and Reconciliation day. Students were asked to complete grammar exit slips on the 25th, and if they weren't here, they had the chance to make it up the next day. Students who are absent are asked to watch Powerschool in the event they miss any class work.

We did not check reading rates this week, but I will be checking on Wednesday, October 4th.

This week students should have turned in their creative writing assignment centered around the theme of "heroes". All the work was completed during class time, and if it was not turned in by Thursday, September 28th, it is considered late.

We will be moving into our personal essay unit next. I will be checking reading rates on Wednesday, October 4th.

Students have completed their first reading rate evaluation and the marks are in powerschool.  Instructions were sent home this week to show parents/guardians how to login to Powerschool. If you did not receive these, please contact the school.

Students also turned in their final copy of their Cheers and Fears of MVHS. If students did not complete this, it will show up as a 0 on Powerschool until it is turned in.

Students should have completed their first reading rate evaluation which is posted on Powerschool.  We also did an in-class activity for the short story "The Michelle I Know". If students missed the in-cass activity, please come see me to find out how you can make up the points!

Students are working on the draft copy of a creative writing piece about a hero.  The final copy will be due on Tuesday, September 26th.

We will have a weekly reading rate check Tuesday, September 19th.

By now, students should have completed their "Let Me Tell You" Assignment. If a student has not completed the assignment, it will show up as a 0 on Powerschool until they turn it in. We are now starting to discuss Heroes which will be part of students Personal Essay/Writing unit.

Students should also have their novel for independent reading and have figured out their weekly reading rate.  To find your rate, read for 10 minutes and multiply the number of pages read by 12. Students are expected to read for 60 minutes at home each week.

Just a reminder that most of the work will be completed during class time, so students are encouraged to attend school on a regular basis in order to have success.
