Just to let you know that Ms. Lynch will be calling you all at home today!

Good Morning, 

Welcome back! I want to start by saying that I miss you all, miss our classes and seeing you everyday at school. I want you to know that I am here for you and if you need anything please email me at anytime. (maria.lynch@nbed.nb.ca

I have added all students to a class on microsoft teams. You all have access to Microsoft Office for free with your school email account. If possible, login to your office.com and download the app to your device. This will allow us to communicate easily, share ideas, and have conversations!

Students have the choice to participate in home learning oppertunities and are encouraged to read everyday for 30 minutes, and get 30 minutes of physical activity each day. Every Monday I will add new learning activities to my teacher page and Microsoft Teams Classes. Grade 9 students are encouraged to participate in 2 hours of English home learning each week. Grade 11 students are encouraged to participate in 3 hours of English home Learning each week. Every Monday I will post home learning activities, if students wish to participate and want feedback they can foreard their work by email anytime.

Students recieved an article: Is Texting Killing The English Language  and a response sheet with 4 questions. 

Students are to do a close reading of the article (evidence of a close read) and answer the 4 questions for beginning of class Friday, September 27th

Students are reminded to read each night for a total of 2 hours outside of class weekly. 

1. Students were given the class to work on Where I'm From poems. Poems are to be drafted and a final copy in their writers notebook for tomorrow. Students were exposed to several samples of this type of poem. Poems should be 10 lines and follow the following format:

I Am From

1.  list of your favourite foods

2.  describe all the sights and sounds on the ?way to school

3.  your favourite relative and explain why

4.  a keepsake that you will never throw ?away

5.  a family saying or expression

6.  a place where you feel the safest

Today students read Chapter 2 of The Outsiders and answered the following questions. 

All Chapter 2 questions are to be completed for Tuesday, Feb 19th

 

Chapter 2

1. Where are Johnny and Ponyboy when the chapter opens? 

2. Why does Dally sneak in? 

3. Who are the two girls they meet there?  

4. What happens at the drive-in?

5. Who gets Dally to stop bothering the girls? Why is this surprising? 

6. Why does Dally leave and go someplace else?

7. Are the names Ponyboy and Sodapop nicknames? Explain.

8. Why doesn?t Ponyboy like referring to Sodapop as a dropout?

9. Why does Two-Bit tell them that Tim Shepard is looking for Dally?

10. What is Ponyboy comparing Two-Bit to when he calls him a “chessy cat” on

page 27? What figure of speech is this besides as simile?

11. Why do people turn and look as Ponyboy and Cherry go for refreshments?

12. What happened to Johnny, who did it to him?

13. If someone tries to beat up Johnny again, what will he do? 

14. What literary device does the author use to describe Johnny?s mugging
