The Salar Dance to the Hardy Miramichi Solo...

Mr. Keith Comeau and his cousin get into a nice salmon on the Nor'west this past Saturday, May 28th.  Check it out...  We are hoping to do the same this Sunday, June 5.
First Grilse - Sat. May 28: Trout BrookATTENTION ALL FLY FISHING CLUB MEMBERS...  There will be a mandatory meeting on Wednesday after school for those students who are going on the fishing trip the Nor'West this Sunday, June 5.  We will be planning and organizing the day, getting a check on any needed equipment and assigning fishing guides.  If you are unable to attend, you MUST see Mr. Hallihan.
On Wednesday, May 18 the Fly Fishing Club travelled to South Esk for a tour of the Fish Hatchery.  Mark Hambrook gave all members of the club complimentary memberships to the Miramichi Salmon Association.  Thanks goes out to Mark and the MSA!
We will be travelling to South Esk on Wednesday, May 18 for a tour of the fish hatchery.  Club members are to meet in Mr. Hallihan's classroom after school before leaving for South Esk.  Reminder that the club fee is due next week!
"Time" for CastingThis week we practiced our casting outside with some wind.  Most members brought their own gear and we provided some rod kits to those who did not have any gear.  With wind in play, the beginners worked on the basics while the experienced challenged themselves into the wind.  It won't be long until we are on the water...
Turle KnotSince Doug was unable to meet with us we decided to refine our skills of knot and fly tying.  The trip is one month away and we want to make sure that we are prepared with a secure knot and a decent fly.
Salmon Country: Doug UnderhillDue to illness, Doug was unable to come to our meeting.  He does plan to check us out before the end of the school year.
Nice Salmon! It is official...  the MVHS Fly Fishing Club will be invading the Northwest Miramichi on Sunday, June 5th and we will hopefully see a lot of tight lines.  To prepare for the trip we need to have a classroom session on needed gear, techniques, etiquette, rules/regulations, etc...  All members are asked to be in attendance on Wednesday after school in my classroom.  We are looking at hooking into one of these...
Salmon Fishing TimeIt is time to dust off your fly rod and do some casting in the gym on Thursday this week after school.  If you have your own rod/reel - bring it.  If you don't - we will have extra rods available.  We will be practicing a variety of casts while reviewing some of the important knots that we learned last week.  See you there!!!

It is two days before the opening of the 2011 Atlantic Salmon Fishing Season and the club is planning to get their gear in order.  We will be demonstrating and practicing many of the knots that we use when salmon fishing.  If you have some gear like a reel, a line, leader and some flies...bring it to the session.  If not, we will have some gear on hand.  Below the mouth of Cains RiverCheck out a picture of Main Southwest Miramichi taken on April 5 - ice is gone but more is left to come down from Doaktown...
