Student pictures will now be taken during tomorrow's class. Because of this change, your Awesome Assignment is now due on Friday, September 18. We will be going to the library during Thursday's class, so that time can be used for typing and finishing up the assignment.

We will be working on this assignment in each class next week, and the final version needs to be typed, double-spaced and in the proper format. Close reading assignment: Due Monday, May 4 You were asked to have an article that connects with the theme you chose for your project ready for today's class, and we went over how to do a close reading of an article today. Your close reading of the article, along with a reflection, is due on Monday. Close Reading Ideas (write what you are thinking as you read):-connections-confusion/questions-interesting points-things you disagree with or feel strongly about Reflection (these are just some suggestions):-how does the article relate to your theme? Your novel?-comment on some of the things you felt strongly about in your close reading
The Romeo and Juliet test will be on Wednesday. I've attached the review sheet in case you didn't get one in class.

We are beginning a multigenre reading and writing unit, and the last few classes have been dedicated to looking at sample projects and finding a novel for the anchor text. You should have a novel chosen now, and the novel information form (handed out in class today) is due on Tuesday.

Today we watched a documentary on teenage brain research and started a graphic organizer assignment comparing the characteristics of a teenage brain to actions in Romeo and Juliet. The graphic organizer is due on Friday, April 17.

Today was the first of three days of lab time to work on presentations on Shakespeare and the Elizabethan Era. Presentations will start on Thursday and continue next Tuesday. Be ready to present for Thursday's class, and make sure you rehearse the presentation!

Today's class was for writing the body paragraphs, and we went over how to incorporate quotations into each paragraph. Homework for tomorrow is to have at least one body paragraph written (try to have all three done!).See the previous post for more information on the essay.

In class this week we have been working on a literary essay on The Outsiders. In each class you have been expected to complete one or two steps of the essay writing process, and so far you have chosen your topic, organized your ideas, written a thesis statement, found evidence to support your arguments, written an introduction and learned how to include in-text citations. If you've missed any of these steps, please see me.  Homework for Thursday is to have your introduction completed. Thursday and Friday's classes will be used for completing the body paragraph and writing the conclusion. The final essay will be due on Wednesday, March 18.

The final copy of your research essay is due on Friday, March 13. Please see me in class, at lunch or during Independent Study if you need help writing or revising your drafts.   800-1000 words double-spaced (3-5 pages typed)You must have at least three sources cited in your works cited. Your final draft must be double spaced on unlined paper, in pen or type (must be 12 point font – Times New Roman or Arial). Don't forget to include your Works Cited page.
