Today we started a multigenre project, and you were asked to find a book that you will be able to finish by May 30th (with classtime provided for reading). The next two days will be for reading (and making sure you have a book you are comfortable with and enjoy). The books can be any genre.
By Monday, have enough of the book read so that you will be able to talk to me about it and we can find a theme or issue to focus your project on.

Yesterday you planned out your literary essay on The Outsiders, and today we went through a model of an introduction, with a hook, bridge and thesis statement. Your homework is to write your essay introduction, and finish your position/support web if you haven't already.

Research Essay Class Work and Homework
I have been going through all the steps of the research essay with you, and giving you lots of time in class to work on each part with my help. Here is what you should have completed so far:
Topic chosen and narrowed down
Three sources (articles or websites) found for your topic
Articles highlighted with main ideas / good quotations
Position/support web
Thesis statement
Outline (I showed you my example of a detailed essay outline in class. Make sure you have your sources and quotations listed here, as well as topic sentences written clearly.
Essays are due on March 10th. Over the next two weeks there will be mini-lessons given on each part of the essay and time to work on the essay in class.

4. things you don't understand
