Today in class we read "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury, and tomorrow we will be looking at the author's writing techniques in the story. Please see me if you missed the class today and need to borrow a copy of the story to read before tomorrow's class. You can also find the story online.   Snapshot drafts with draft questions were due today, and the final copy will be due on Monday.

Today in class you created a first draft and revised it using the STAR strategies (substitute, take away, add and rearrange). Your homework is to use the STAR strategy on your snapshot drafts, marking where you use each strategy. Snapshot drafts with draft question and STAR strategies are due tomorrow. School pictures will be taken in class on Thursday.

Today we started our short story unit and practiced mapping plots on a plot diagram.   Reminders: The playground article of the week is due on Friday Final copies of your personal essays are due on Thursday in MLA format (see attached document) School pictures will be taken during class on Wednesday.

Snapshot Moment: drafts, with a draft question, are due on Monday (they can be on looseleaf or in your Writer's Notebook)   -The draft question is what you want me to look for as I read your snapshot moment. Do you want me to  look  at voice, grammar, ideas, your conclusion, etc.? Period Three: I will be collecting your Writer's Notebooks on Monday. Make sure they are organized, have all of your Quick Writes in them as well as your two reading goals.

Today we looked at adding voice to our writing, and read "Young People and Their Video Games Make Me Furious!" by Donald Mills. You were given an assignment to respond to Donald Mills' opinions about teenagers and video games using your voice as a teenager. The assignment is due on Thursday, September 19th.   Assignment Reminders: ·MLA Format: typed, double spaced, no title page·10% deducted for each day late·no electronic copies accepted- print on your own time·I will accept assignments until 3:30- just pass it in to me or to the main office   See the attached document for how to type the first page of the assignment in MLA format.

Today we discussed dialogue and how to incorporate it into your snapshot moments. We read an excerpt from Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, and looked at how dialogue is used in his snapshot moment. The rest of the class was for working on your snapshot moment drafts, which will be collected later this week.   Please make sure your reading goals are complete and your Writer's Notebook is organized. Period 3 and 4 notebooks will be collected tomorrow.   See Friday's post for information on setting reading goals.

Today we looked at the persuasive voice, style and word choice in "A Senseless Death in a Dangerous Age," talked about organizing your essays (specifically writing leads), and you had time to draft.
