Congrats!  You've made it through week one of high school!  We had some great discussions in English class today about the students' "fears" and "cheers" regarding high school.  The students worked well collaboratively.  Homework for Monday: Finish your interestalyzers and buy a hard cover writers notebook. Period 1: Have your parents sign the media forms. Have a great weekend!

Boomerang was a great success today!  Congrats to Mr. Sullivan and the Boomerang leaders for making our grade nines feel so welcome.  Also, I loved meeting my classes today - keep up the positive attitudes as we move forward!

English 10: Today we practiced notetaking from listening and we discussed the pros and cons of instituting one laptop/child in schools.  Tomorrow we will expand on our discussion and will begin our final writing piece of the semester.  Don't forget that your critical reading activities on teenage sleep are due tomorrow. English 112A (Period 3): Today you handed in your essays on the NB Health Population Survey.  We continued our post-discussion of The Truman Show.  We had some very deep discussions!  We will begin writing our final personal essay of the term.  It will cause us to look quite critically at our own realities. The essay assignment is attached below (when you open it, scroll down to page two). English 112A (Period 4): We continued filming today.  We're getting there!!!

English 10: We watched an episode of The Nature of Things today called "Surviving :) The Teenage Brain".  As a follow-up, you must complete an It Says/I Say/So graphic organizer on the documentary.  I am attaching a copy of the worksheet and I have added the documentary as a web link.

English 112A (Period 4): "The Lost Love of Tommy Waterfield" questions are due tomorrow.  Also, the big day is just around the corner!  After school, we will be rehearsing for our film.  Saturday is filming day!!!  Be at the main entrance of the school at 12pm, ready to start.  Also, remember to bring in $2.00 for pizza.   English 112A (Period 3): Today we looked at some interesting statistics from the 2011 NB Population Health Snapshot.  Your assignment is to: Analyze the data that has been given to you and complete the following activity: Look at the results of the "Life Satisfaction"  and "Perceived Health" surveys.  Compare these to the results of the other surveys.  In an essay (minimum of two pages), explain the irony of these results.  Your piece can include:   analysis of the data (what are the numbers and what do they mean) how the results are ironic what has caused these results (use your own knowledge and experiences living in the Miramichi area to comment on this) This assignment is due on Tuesday.  The graphs can be obtained directly from me if you were not present today.
