Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi Branch 10 Bursaries--Bursaries are awarded on a point system that is based on financial need, with special consideration given to children and grandchildren of veterans.  Transcripts and letters of recommendation are not needed.  Completed applications are due May 15th, 2020.  Copies can be mailed or emailed, but please do not drop it off.

Applicants or their parents must have been members of Beaubear Credit Union for the 12 months preceding the application.  Applications are due no later than June 1st, 2020.

Lee Johnston Ltd. Scholarship --is offering a $500 scholarship to a grade 12 student in good academic standing, who was accepted into a forestry program.  Preference will be given to forestry students.  Completed applications must be sent to Melissa.odonnell@nbed.nb.ca by 3pm on Friday, May 22, 2020.

Scott McKay Memorial Scholarship--The NBHOA zone 6 hockey officials will be offering a $1000 scholarship in honour of Scott McKay.  

 

Terms to qualify:

1) Must be attending college or university in the fall.

2) Must be involved in school activities. 

3) Must write a short essay explanation on how mental health is such an important part of sports and keeping a healthy mind. 

 

Please send essay to Larry McKay at klmc@nb.sympatico.caMust be received by May 20th, 2020. 

 

Attached is the application form.  The first two pages detail the local scholarships and bursaries available.  While many of the scholarships and bursaries have specific criteria, many do not.  If they do not have criteria, please be sure to apply for them. The application form must be completed fully.  At the bottom of the page are 27 numbers which correspond to each of the scholarships and bursaries on the previous two pages.  Please underline or highlight each of the scholarships and bursaries you are applying for.  The M Awards application is at the end.  If you have been involved in extra-curricular activities, sports, or any aspect of student life please fill out this section as well.  If you have already sent Ms. O'Donnell a copy of your acceptance letter she does not need another one.  The same goes for other scholarships and bursaries you have received.  However, if you have yet to send Ms. O'Donnell these documents they must be received in order to qualify for these scholarships and bursaries.  The deadline is Friday, May 22nd, 2020 for them to be emailed to Melissa.odonnell@nbed.nb.ca.

This scholarship is in memory of Paula (Regan) Bosma and is valued at $1000.  The completed scholarship application and essay must be received by J. Bosma via mail or email (bosmajo14@gmail.com) no later than May 31st, 2020.

 

One graduate from each High School will receive the $2000 Big Brothers Big Sisters / Boys & Girls Club Scholarship.

 

Criteria for selection:

 

1.   Financial need:  you need financial support to go to College or University.
Tell us about your situation and include the paperwork listed in the application.

 

2.   Volunteering – you give your time to help others.
Tell us about your volunteer work; where do you help out in the community?

 

You are eligible to apply for this Scholarship if you are graduating from:

 

  • Miramichi Valley High School

  • North & South Esk Regional

  • James M Hill

  • Carrefour Beausoleil

  • Blackville School

    To be eligible for the scholarship you must:

 

  • demonstrate financial need to go to post-secondary school

  • be a 2020 High School Graduate

  • be registered in a program at a University, College, or Trade School for the next school year

  • maintain a minimum average of 75%

    To be considered for this scholarship you must provide:

 

  • a completed and signed application form, including the expenses and income information

  • a document that indicates financial need (Current pay stub and Line 150 Taxable Income as stated on the most recent Notice of Assessment)

  • 2 letters of references: 1) who knows you personally  1) who will validate your volunteer involvement

  • a copy of your most recent school transcript

  • a copy of your letter of acceptance from your University, College or Trade School

James A. Whitebone Memorial Scholarships

These two scholarships (2) of $500 are available to students entering their first year of post secondary studies. Eligible are members, or their children, who belong to local unions affiliated with the NBFL. The application deadline is June 30th .

 

Tim McCarthy Environment Prize

This $500 prize (1) is open to NBFL members or their children, who are pursuing higher education in fields relating to environmental protection and education. Applicants may be in their first or subsequent years of post secondary studies. The application deadline is June 30th .

 

NBFL Solidarity Bursaries

These two awards (2) of $500 are open to any person regardless of union membership pursuing post secondary education full-time or enrolled in high school at the grade 12 level. Funded by AIL Canada, a unionized insurance provider, they serve to promote greater awareness and understanding of the value of unions. The application deadline is June 30th.

 

Valued at $500, preference will be given to sons, daughters, and legal wards of members of CUPE Local 3863.  The award is based on marks, aptitude, promise and financial need.  The completed applications must be returned to the Education Committee of Local 3863 no later than Thursday, April 30th, 2020.
