Science 9 - Students continued with presentations today. All presentations must be complete by Tuesday. Students continued their look at other objects in the solar system and questions were assigned to periods 2 & 6. Period 1 went over these questions as they were assigned yesterday for them. No homework for period 1, questions 1 - 6 on page 433 for periods 2 & 6. You do not have to do the question if you have already answered it in your notes.   Biology 112 - Quiz to start the class. Labs were collected. Discussed the cell membrane in more detail and how it is a selectively permeable membrane. Began discussing the different types of transport and will be finishing this on Monday. Review on Tuesday and test on Wednesday covering all material to date.

Science 9 - Some groups presented today in period 1 & 2. Students in period 6 finished up their presentations in the lab and will begin presenting tomorrow. Students in period 1 have homework for tomorrow (questions 1 - 5 on page 433). Students in period 2 & 6 do not.   Biology 112 - Students were in the lab for half of the class today finishing their labs. We started examining the cell membrane today in class. There will be a quiz tomorrow at the start of class with all material covered to date being fair game. We will continue looking at the cell membrane tomorrow. Students can expect a test on all material up to and including the cell membrane in the middle of next week.

Science 9 - Students were in the computer lab today. Students in periods 1 & 2 will begin their presentations tomorrow while those in period 6 will be in the lab tomorrow and begin presenting on Friday.   Biology 112 - Students were in the lab today creating wet mounts and working on their lab write ups. Students will have about 10 minutes tomorrow in class to work on their labs and they will be due on Friday.

Science 9 - Students were in the computer lab today working on their planet projects. Students have one more day in the lab tomorrow to finish up these projects with the exception of period 6 who will be in the lab both Wednesday and Thursday due a presentation today.   Biology 112 - Students were working with microscopes in the lab. Students will be in the lab tomorrow to finish working on the material and will be focusing on making their own slides using cheek cell and onion cells. The lab is tentatively due on Thursday.

Science 9 - Homework from Friday was corrected in class, answers are now posted on the main feed. Students also started working on their planets project. This is also posted on the main feed for those students who were absent from class today and wish to get a jump on it. Please note that presentations will start on Thursday, February 10th and not Wednesday as is indicated on the assignment.   Biology 112 - Students learned about the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus in class today (see link below) and its importantance on research. We reviewed the organelles of the cell that were assigned for homework in class and also looked at the microscope and how to operate a compound light microscope. Students will be in the lab tomorrow and Wednesday working with microscopes, preparing their own slides, and working on their lab write ups.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU-yq_IJhtU

Science 9 - Students examined the planets today in class and will be starting a planet project on Monday with presentations on Wednesday. Questions 1-5 on page 419 were assigned for homework and will be checked on Monday.   Biology 112 - Students were reminded about their timeline assignments that are due on Monday. Students reviewed the organelles of a cell today in class. Most were able to recall the functions of the organelles from grade 9 science which allowed for a more in depth look at the organelles of the cell and their functions. Students were assigned to finish their organelle function outline for homework. This will be reviewed on Monday in case any mistakes are made.

Science 9 - Homework was corrected, the answers are posted on the main feed. Students learned about the movement of the Earth in class today. They will have a short quiz on this at the start of class tomorrow.   Biology 112 - Students had a quick follow up in regards to the impact the surface area:volume ratio has on cell size. Students were then given a timeline assignment (posted on main feed) where they will learn about spontaneous generation and how it is no longer accepted in the scientific community. This should lead students to the development of the cell theory which was discussed in yesterdays class. This assignment is due on Monday, February 7th.
