Balancing Equations Help Video

Students who are having difficulties balancing chemical equations are asked to watch this video. It was shown in class and offers some good hints on how to balance chemical equations. Students will need to know how to do this for the test coming up next week on Chapters 5 & 6.

Science 10 (Periods 1 & 3) - Watched a video on balancing equations. Students continued working on balancing equations worksheet. There will be a short quiz tomorrow covering balancing equations to gauge student progress with this topic. Period 6 was at an assembly today and will view the video tomorrow and have their quiz on Wednesday.   Science 9 - Students were introduced to cell division today and the various phases of mitosis. Students were given some homework questions and will be in the lab later this week examining mitosis in prepared slides.

Science 10 - Students had a quiz today on writing word equations and the Law of Conservation of Mass. Students then continued working on balancing chemical equations. We will continue this work on Monday. Students are to complete the questions in their textbook (1 - 4 on page 229) and the first 20 on the worksheet I handed out for Monday.   Science 9 - Many students did not complete the homework from the previous day covering organelles. Homework is not given as a punishment, it is to reinforce what was covered in class. There will be a quiz on Monday covering organelles so students who did not complete their homework must do so over the weekend. We began looking at cell division today in class. Students were assigned 2 homework questions from their textbook as well.

Science 10 - Corrected homework from last class. Started balancing equations. This will most likely be the most difficult topic covered this semester in science 10 so students should ask for help the moment they start experiencing difficulties with it. Homework was assigned and students are expected to at least attempt the homework as the only way to improve their skills on balancing equations is to practice it. We will be spending a few classes covering this concept.   Science 9 - Collected assignments from Tuesday and discussed spontaneous generation with the entire class. Students were then given an exercise on comparing organelles and their functions with items we find in todays world. The exercise is listed below and will be checked tomorrow.   Science 9 Exercise:   To fully understand what each organelle does you are going to try the following activity for the remainder of the class today. You will have to compare the function of an organelle to something we find in today's world. Be sure to explain why we need each specific organelle and the object you compared it to.

Science 10 - All classes covered word equations and the Law of Conservation of Mass today. Students were assigned homework questions that will be checked on Thursday. Students should read the section associated with the questions if they are having difficulties with them.   Science 9 - Students worked on a case study today in groups dealing with spontaneous generation and disproving the theory of spontaneous generation. These will be handed in on Thursday. Most students were able to finish their sections on their own but some were not and must complete it for homework.

Science 10 - Quizzes from Friday were handed back to those who were present. If a student got less then 15/24 on their quiz they are required to come to science extra help which will be offered starting tomorrow at lunch. Students must work to get the concepts down that they did not understand. Period 1 & 3 started looking at chemical equations today in class and period 1 has homework to complete. Period 6 examined molecular compounds today and will start chemical equations tomorrow. Period 6 has homework as well. Period 1 - page 219, questions 2 - 4. Period 6 - page 204, questions 3 - 6.   Science 9 - Students started cell reproduction today in class. We started with a brief review of the cell and the organelles that are found in it with a focus on specific organelles, namely the nucleus. Students had homework assigned, questions 1 - 4 on page 143, of which almost all were able to finish. Students will be working on an assignment tomorrow in class.

Students who require extra help should be asking for it. I will be starting science help at lunch during certain days and students will have to listen for which days it will be offered as it will change on a weekly basis. Also, science help will be available from me during independent study starting with the next rotation.

Science 10 - Labs were collected from students. We went over some ionic compounds questions and then had a quiz covering these. We will pick up Monday with molecular compounds and then continue into chemical equations followed by balancing chemical equations.   Science 9 - Students wrote a test today on chapters 15 & 16. We will be starting cell reproduction on Monday which is change from the course outline. We will be covering ecosystems after cell reproduction.

Science 10 - Students got some time in class to work on their labs. These are due tomorrow at the start of class. We continued looking at molecular compounds and in some classes students have homework. Other classes were not able to get as far with the material and do not have homework. There is a very high likelyhood of a quiz in all classes tomorrow covering ionic compounds as well as molecular compounds. Students should always be prepared to write a quiz so this should not come as a surprise.   Science 9 - Finished all material for the space unit. Students were given about a half hour to look over their review to make sure they understood all the material and test hints were given. Test on chapters 15 & 16 is tomorrow.

Science 10 - Students conducted a lab today using tests that are analogous to tests for ions in water samples. Students will have to complete a lab write up for this lab. This will include a title page and the following items: Questions a, b, c on pages 199 - 200 as well as questions 1 - 4 on page 200. This write up will be due Friday and students will have time in tomorrow’s class to work on their write up. Only one copy is due per group!!!   Science 9 - Students were given their test reviews today for the test on Friday. Students then handled the recycling duties of the school today, collecting bins, washing bins, and separating bottles. This will hopefully be a continual event every Wednesday as it will coincide with the ecology unit that will be studied later in the course.
